Corporate Social Responsibility

We take our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) very seriously.

Our efforts to promote CSR as a business are encapsulated in our approach to managing our environmental impact, our community and volunteering activities and by treating our employees fairly.

Managing our Environmental Impact

As a business, we are working towards being carbon neutral by 2025 and carbon negative beyond. We are doing this in a number of ways.

We have Solar Panels installed at our Head Office in New Eltham, and have swapped all our light bulbs to LED bulbs across all of our offices. To date, these have generated, on average, a 60% of total energy usage for the company, saving 14,070.84kg of CO2 emissions, or the equivalent of 859 trees planted.

In 2017, we adapted our systems to enable digital ‘paperwork’ for our site teams. This has reduced the amount of paperwork produced by 75%, in turn saving a significant amount of trees being cut down up to March 2021, saving 1800kg of CO2, emissions, the equivalent to over 53 new trees being planted.

We have installed three beehives at our Head Office. The general bee population is rapidly declining, and by providing these hives, we are able to accommodate the bee population and encourage increased pollination, which has numerous benefits; flowers and plants will be more profuse, and fruit and vegetable yields will increase.

Support Local Communities

We provide rail employment opportunities for people Not in Education, Employment, or Training (NEETs) through our rail apprenticeship scheme, and we are members of the 5% Club.

We support local charities, such as Lewisham Ignition Brewery, who provide employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities, teaching them how to brew and serve beer.

We also support UK Homes 4 Heroes, a charity aimed at helping homeless ex-service personnel. We have donated welfare vehicles and yard space for their vehicles to support their outreach programmes whereby they provide food, haircuts, mental wellbeing support to individuals.

We are a business based in the south of England. Our strategy is to work with Small Medium Enterprise (SMEs) based in the local area so that we can continue investing in the local community and creating local jobs and opportunities for smaller businesses.

Treating our Employees and Supply Chain Fairly

We ensure that we treat all of our people fairly and ethically. We have an Equality and Diversity policy which underscores the way we treat our people.

As a business, we ensure that we:

  • Pay our people a fair wage and our apprentices a wage above the national minimum.
  • Do not employ people on zero-hours contracts.
  • Abide by the fair payment charter, paying our supply chain within 30 days of invoice; as promoted by the UK Government and the Construction Leadership Council.
