B&M McHugh recently volunteered with The Felix Project charity in their main Poplar warehouse and distribution centre. The Felix Project is an incredible initiative to reduce food waste and food poverty, redistributing food to those that need it the most.

While there are many provisions in place to reduce food waste, the UK produces the highest amount of food waste in Europe. The UK throws away around 9.5 million tonnes of food waste in a single year – even though 8.4 million people in the UK are in food poverty. Over ⅓ of all food produced globally goes to waste.

Considering the current UK economy, this is a particularly important time to help out where we can. We thoroughly recommend volunteering with The Felix Project to any individuals or organisations that are looking for opportunities to stand up for those that may be struggling right now.
