B&M McHugh supports and highlights World Environment Day on 5th June 2024.
The theme for 2024 is "Our Land, Our Future’. This year, the initiative highlights and emphasizes the importance of restoring land, combating desertification, and enhancing resilience to drought.
Currently, up to 40% of the world's land is degraded, impacting around 3.2 billion people globally due to desertification. Moreover, projections suggest that by 2050, over three-quarters of the world's population will be affected by drought. This year's World Environment Day precedes the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) COP16, which will be held in December 2024 in the United Kingdom.
Human-induced environmental damage is escalating, with serious consequences such as climate change, ecosystem loss, and land desertification. It is our duty as the current generation to protect the environment and restore land and nature to their natural state.
